In 2018, NOKIAN TIRES invited our studio to develop a design project for an entire floor of the company’s office building. The complexity of the project was that offices of managers and specialists were supposed to be located along the entire perimeter of the floor, and in the central part there was an open space, which was deprived of access to natural light. Also, a fairly low ceiling was added to this due to problems with the laying of utilities.
The work on the design project coincided with the announcement of the updated corporate identity of the company – the new style and ideology of the company are tied to a natural component and simplicity. Therefore, we used a natural scale in the project – with the help of it we divided the entire floor into 2 parts (2 departments – finance and HR). We also proposed a concept based on the idea that each employee of the company is a unique element / puzzle /, and all together they leave a single NOKIAN TIRES team. Therefore, in the interior, in addition to the natural component, we decided to emphasize the amazing team spirit of the company. Such elements are found everywhere – from wall panels to lamps, zoning open space.
We proposed to make the walls of all rooms facing the open space glass – so that natural light penetrates as deeply as possible into the central part of the floor. For private meetings or negotiations, blackout curtains are provided from inside the offices.
Elevators and a block of technical rooms divides the floor into 2 logical parts – the finance department and the HR department. Immediately at the elevators, we placed common spaces – these are 2 large meeting rooms, a copy room and a tea room for employees. The color scheme for the HR department is blue, and for the finance department it is green, as the 2 main seasons for the company’s products – summer and winter, we used the color very carefully, the main shades (especially on work meta) were neutral so that nothing would distract employees and took no annoyance during the day. Also, each of the departments has its own soft seating area and small negotiations.
The main accent of the open space zone is the lamps – their design combines lighting for workplaces and at the same time additionally zones open space without cluttering the space, their range also supports a common color division.
