Project description from design firms Q&A Studio
The collaboration between Q&A Studio and Heytea continues to flourish with the unveiling of our latest project—a new store located in WanFeng Coastal City Shopping Mall, Shajing District, Shenzhen. A testament to the ongoing partnership, resulting in a space that seamlessly blends cultural heritage with contemporary design.
The design concept for the new Heytea store, titled “Between the Shore,” draws inspiration from the rich history of oyster farming in Shajing, often referred to as “the oyster hometown of China.”
This concept is rooted in the natural beauty and contrasts found in oyster shells, which have been carefully observed and translated into the store’s design.
Soft stone materials, chosen for their rough texture, are used extensively throughout the space, connecting elements like the bar, columns, and ceiling.
These materials create organic layers that give the store a sculptural quality, evoking the layered structure of an oyster shell. The continuity of these materials across different surfaces brings a sense of unity and flow to the space, making it feel both natural and artful.
To enhance this theme, shell-glazed tiles add a shimmering effect, reminiscent of the iridescence found inside an oyster shell.
The lighting, particularly the globular fixtures placed in ceiling corners, symbolizes pearls—hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. This thoughtful integration of materials and light creates a dynamic environment where customers are invited to explore and experience the space in a deeply engaging way.
The “Between the Shore” concept not only honors Shajing’s cultural heritage but also reflects Heytea’s commitment to innovation and design excellence. This store stands as a beautiful fusion of tradition and modernity, offering a unique and immersive experience that resonates with both the past and the present.
