Description from design firm J.P.Group Design
Located in Tainan, Taiwan, Gray Waves sits adjacent to Anping Harbor overlooking the shimmering Taiwan Strait. The property is owned by a couple who are seeking to build an idyllic retirement abode that encapsulates both style and timelessness. The sparkling ocean waves are reflected by the solemn interior to conceive a gentle tension at the interplay of the natural and manmade worlds. Gray Waves’s dominant grey motif seamlessly integrates the spaces to form a visual equilibrium that expresses both simplicity and vitality.
The grey concrete is complemented by sleek iron fixtures and expansive wooden elements, each maintaining its raw materiality. The minimal use of walls between the living room, dining room and workroom confers the space openness and a coherent flow; the use of a sheer curtain and shelf enriches the central living spaces with an intriguing sense of depth and multi-layerity. In contrast to the muted tones of the living room and master bedroom, the guest bedrooms exhibit a saturated colour palette to convey a sense of liveliness to visitors.
The sliding doors add flexibility to these spaces, enabling them to fulfil a range of different functions. Our goal is to maximize functionality within the bounds of minimalist living. The generous entrance storage easily accommodates the accessories of modern life, reducing interior cabinets and drawers to achieve a continuous flow throughout the spacious central living quarters.
