Project description from design firms destilat Design Studio
With its impressive unique surfaces, TDW Material Lab is revolutionizing all ideas of what wood, ceramics, metal, stone, paper, or innovative design materials can look like. With its consulting expertise and comprehensive materials database, the company has opened up a new business segment and has become a relevant partner for architects and designers.
destilat’s creative premise was to consciously curate the material possibilities in their interior design and to “whet the appetite for more” with a selection of materials, rather than displaying everything the company has to offer in a colorful patchwork quilt. To give the plain space more excitement, the interior designers have constructed supposed skylights with mirrored ceiling cut-outs. These architectural breaks provide dramatic lighting and give the room its stage-like character. The products are not displayed like in a store, but in the form of a lounge area.
The central element is the imposing counter made of natural stone with a brushed metal top, which runs across the room, intersecting different areas and cleverly concealing the back office, bar, and storage space. Restraint can be seen in the homogeneous design of the walls and floor – executed in a manual spatula technique that tells of the style of craftsmanship, it forms a harmonious architectural framework that can be used again and again.
