Project description from design firms PLANKA
Located in Moscow, this 89.8-square-meter apartment in the residential complex ILOVE Residential Complex is conceived by PLANKA as a contemplative living environment for a young family.
Rooted in a contemporary Japandi aesthetic, the interior draws from Japanese minimalism and the philosophy of wabi-sabi – where quietness, imperfection, and material honesty shape the spatial narrative. The project avoids visual noise, instead embracing a restrained palette, tactile surfaces, and a carefully orchestrated balance of geometry and light.
A defining feature of the apartment is its architectural ceiling, where integrated lighting and subtle volumetric shifts create a soft rhythm throughout the space. This overhead composition not only enhances spatial perception but also reinforces the idea of comfort through simplicity.
The main living area combines kitchen and lounge into a unified composition. Custom-designed elements play a central role: a bespoke sofa anchors the seating zone, while a dining table seamlessly integrates with the kitchen island, blurring the boundaries between functional areas. Veneered panels extend across the TV wall and window reveals, adding warmth and continuity.

Materiality remains consistent across the apartment – engineered wood flooring, concealed doors, and minimal electrical fittings contribute to the clean visual language. Carefully selected lighting – both technical and decorative – enhances the atmosphere without overpowering it.
In the private areas, the same philosophy continues. The bedroom is calm and intimate, defined by soft lighting scenarios and custom furniture. The children’s room introduces subtle playfulness while maintaining the overall aesthetic coherence. Bathrooms are treated as monolithic spaces, where porcelain stoneware, integrated fixtures, and muted tones create a sense of quiet luxury.
Throughout the apartment, the design prioritizes proportion, texture, and light – resulting in a space that feels both grounded and refined, where everyday life unfolds within a serene architectural framework.
