Project description from design firms PLANKA
This project aimed to create a bright, warm, and functional space for a young couple, while paying tribute to the architecture and history of the building.
One of the key elements of the apartment is a small open French balcony — a feature uncommon for Moscow — offering a charming view of the inner courtyard. The owners enjoy having breakfast there during the summer months.
One of the main challenges of the project was to carefully adhere to the budget while setting clear priorities in its allocation. Thus, the original windows, the entrance door, and the parquet flooring were preserved and carefully restored. These existing elements were precisely integrated into a contemporary interior, allowing for significant cost optimization.
At the same time, no compromises were made when it came to decorative lighting: all lighting pieces come from well-known brands.

A subtle reference to the Stalinist era can be found in the bathroom wall sconces by Chronosfactor. Their shades have an interesting history: they were originally part of a large chandelier that decorated a Soviet-era holiday home near Moscow. According to legend, the shades were manufactured at the same factory that produced the stars for the towers of the Moscow Kremlin. Today, they have found a new life in this apartment, just a few kilometers away from their “ruby counterparts.”
